FAQs
Q: Will Talbots be offering a similar scheme for Private Client specialisms?
Not at the present time. Please only apply for the Summer Vacation Scheme in Business Services if you have a genuine interest in law relating to at least one of our Business Services areas.
Q: Where will the summer vacation scheme take place?
You’ll need to be within a reasonable daily commute of our Stourbridge office, which is where the Summer Vacation Scheme will be hosted. However subsequent Training Contracts (subject to business requirements) may be offered at another of our regional offices (which you can view on the website).
Our ethos of “train to retain” works well for aspiring lawyers who are passionate about progressing a career in law and working, living and giving-back to their local communities.
Q: What are the start dates for Training Contracts, and how long would they be?
Talbots start new Trainees in October each year. The earliest start date for Training Contracts offered after the Summer Vacation Scheme would be October 2024. Training Contracts are also available for 2025 starts.
Q: Is this a paid Scheme, and how much is the Trainee Solicitor salary at Talbots?
The Summer Vacation Scheme is unpaid, as it is effectively enhanced work experience and also forms part of our recruitment process.
The current (2024) salary for Trainee Solicitors is £27,500 in year one, rising to £28,500 in year two. NB. Trainees who are current / ongoing employees are also eligible for our employee-owners profit-share.
All Trainees are eligible for our comprehensive and competitive Company benefits provision.

There are up to eight places available each week (there are two separate one-week placements, so sixteen placements in total).
Please advise us which week(s) you are available when you submit your application.
