Our Family Team

Why should I trust Talbots divorce solicitors?

Our divorce solicitors are relationship specialists. When it comes to disputes, there’s nothing that we haven’t seen. We’ll never judge, and we’ll never make decisions for you. What we will do is explain your options clearly and help get on the right route to resolution.

From our considerable experience, we know that no two couples are alike. Similarly, each divorce is different. Each new case deserves dedication and patience. We know that when it comes to breaking up, the quicker the process, the softer the blow. While we will always aim for a speedy service, we also believe in doing things properly. Our divorce solicitors will leave no stone unturned and ensure that the settlement you receive is fair, and the outcome suits you personally.

How much will it cost?

Talbots offer a ‘Fixed Fee’ for the divorce process, and we will outline your costs from the very start with no hidden fees. We understand how stressful a divorce can be without being lumped with a large bill at the end. We want to make sure that you are given the best service at a ‘fixed’ price. Speak to someone in our Family team for more information.

The first step is talking. Often, a calm negotiation can be more powerful than a courtroom confrontation. Our divorce solicitors are fully trained in mediation, allowing you and your ex-partner to express yourselves honestly without losing sight of the end goal. All too often, separating couples are quick to point the finger, and this is what makes divorce drag. The final destination of mediation is agreement, and we’ll be here to guide you through and ensure you stay on track until you reach it. If an agreement is reached in mediation, you save yourself time, costs and emotional distress. Sometimes, a little patience goes a long way.

Mediation will only be successful if all parties are open to discussion. However, we know that this isn’t always possible. When disputes escalate and situations get complicated, we’ll stand by you. In this case, our divorce solicitors will fight to the end to secure your desired outcome.

What are the grounds for divorce?

No fault divorce came into force on 6 April 2022.  From this date the no fault based process applies to all divorce applications in England and Wales.

After 12 months of marriage you, your spouse or you both jointly can make an application for divorce on the grounds that your marriage has broken down irretrievably.  You are no longer required by law to apportion blame or to have lived apart for some time.

How long will the divorce process take?

The new divorce process can take a minimum of 26 weeks.  This does not factor in time needed for administration, processing and negotiations.  There are associated issues to resolve following separation such as financial matters and arrangements for children which will mean the entire process could take slightly longer.  Similarly, if both parties do not reach an agreement through negotiations or during mediation and additional Court proceedings are necessary, the process will take a lot longer. Essentially, the sooner you and your ex-partner can agree on important matters, the less time involved overall.
