Continuing Professional Development (‘CPD’) forms a critical part of a lot of professions.

Doctors must attend regular training sessions, to ensure they can provide the best care to their patients. The same goes for Conveyancers; the law is constantly changing. Our Teams need to be up to date in their technical and legal knowledge, to ensure they are providing the highest standard of service and best legal advice to our clients.

In an always competitive market, Talbots want to ensure we stand out for the right reasons. We want to be the best at what we do.

At Talbots Law we are passionate about enabling our award-winning conveyancing teams to provide the best experience possible for our clients. To achieve this, they must be up to date with any law or policy changes.

Talbots has its own Training Academy. Our qualified Solicitor trainers write and deliver regular training to all members of our conveyancing teams, whatever their role both at our offices and offsite. They also arrange training from industry leaders at other locations.

Attending regular training sessions and taking part in the profession discussions, that occur within and around these sessions, assists our colleagues to discover how to improve the service we provide to our clients and their experience of interacting with a Conveyancer. It enables colleagues to develop their skill set, enhance technical knowledge and advise clients in a way that is specific to the case in hand,  that our client can understand.

Some property topics can quickly become national talking points:

The new TA6 (Property Information Form) was initially, due to become mandatory in June 2024 (now delayed until January 2025). The release of the new TA6 received a lot of criticism within the Legal profession, partially due to the increase in questions Sellers are being asked to answer but also the impact on Conveyancers. Understanding not only the questions asked within the TA6, but how any answers provided would impact our clients in readiness for its use is essential to ensure our clients are correctly supported and protected.

The RAAC concrete crisis made national news in Summer 2023. Where present in schools it delayed the return of some children following the summer holidays. It is now known to be the case that RAAC concrete was used in some Leasehold developments.

The doubling ground rent scandal unfortunately meant that some Leaseholders were stuck in Leasehold properties that they could not sell or mortgage without engaging in lengthy and costly negotiations with their landlord, to vary or remove clauses in their leases that are not compliant with modern mortgage lender requirements.

Undertaking ongoing training, in the form of CPD, enables our team to act quickly. We can then inform our colleagues of these issues, so that our Conveyancers can advise our clients properly on current or developing issues.

We have a number of Values at Talbots Law, that go to the heart of who we are and how we operate. Regular CPD training helps us to achieve some of these;

  • We’re passionate about what we do
  • We work everyday to be the best
  • We’re legal experts
  • Each experience teaches us something new
