We’re proud to have worked alongside Lambert Smith Hampton in supporting Birmingham City Council with the acquisition of Washington Court, a significant step forward in the city’s mission to provide additional family accommodation for those who need them most.
Originally operated as a homeless shelter by a housing association, Washington Court has faced challenges in recent years. Financial pressures meant the building could no longer be maintained, leaving its future uncertain. Recognising the opportunity to invest in a property with great potential, Birmingham City Council stepped in, acquiring the building with the aim of transforming it into safe and secure short-term accommodation for families across the city.
Talbots Law acted on behalf of the Council, handling the conveyancing for the acquisition, a collaborative process between our residential and commercial property teams. We worked closely with Lambert Smith Hampton on the transaction, building on our strong partnership and shared commitment to supporting the Council’s wider housing programme.
This marks latest milestone in our longstanding partnership with Birmingham City Council, and part of a wider, ongoing programme to tackle Birmingham’s housing crisis. To date, we’ve completed over 350 acquisitions under the programme, helping to deliver more than 1,200 beds across Birmingham.
Once refurbishment work is complete, Washington Court will offer around 80 family units. This is a fantastic result for Birmingham City Council, who continue to demonstrate their commitment to making a meaningful difference for local communities.
This project is especially meaningful for us at Talbots. As the first Employee-Owned Law Firm in the West Midlands, we believe strongly in giving back to our communities. Completing this work has been fully aligned with our values, and we’re proud to be playing our part in helping families across the region find a place to call home.
Projects like Washington Court are not just property transactions – they’re about restoring hope, providing stability, and helping families thrive.
