A serious workplace injury can have life-changing consequences, especially when injuries affect a person’s ability to work, maintain independence, and enjoy everyday life.
Our personal injury team is currently supporting a client who suffered significant back injuries after an industrial accident while carrying out delivery work.
The accident
In October 2021, our client was making a delivery involving powdered sodium carbonate when a pipe attached to his tanker split unexpectedly. The product discharged under pressure and struck him in the back, causing serious injury.
Although he had rarely taken time off work before the accident, his injuries have prevented him from returning to employment since shortly afterwards.
The claim has been further complicated by the discovery of an underlying spinal condition which had previously caused no symptoms. The accident also worsened pre-existing psychological difficulties, significantly affecting our client’s day-to-day life and wellbeing.
How we supported the client
Since being instructed in 2022, our team has worked closely with the client and his family to guide them through what has become a complex and emotionally difficult claim.
Our work has included:
- Investigating the circumstances of the accident
- Securing an admission of liability
- Obtaining expert orthopaedic, psychological and pain management evidence
- Supporting the client through ongoing treatment and rehabilitation
- Advising on settlement offers and negotiations
- Preparing disclosure documents and witness evidence
- Issuing court proceedings and representing the client through case management hearings
The client also raised concerns about possible surveillance being carried out by insurers during the claim. We provided advice and reassurance throughout that process to help reduce additional stress and anxiety.
Ongoing proceedings
The claim remains ongoing and is currently listed for trial later in 2026. Interim negotiations have already taken place, with substantial offers being considered as both sides continue to assess the long-term impact of the injuries.
Our priority remains securing the best possible outcome for the client while supporting him and his family through every stage of the legal process.
