July was a record-breaking month for Talbots Law’s market-leading Franchise Team, completing 62 franchise transactions, with sale and purchases worth a combined £44 million.

Led by our Head of Franchising Nicola Reeve, our specialist team have delivered a remarkable volume and quality of work and maintained Talbots Law’s reputation as a go-to law firm for the UK franchise sector.

As part of this busy period, the team was at the forefront of a significant series of transactions for one of our longest-standing clients, Doug Wright, a leading McDonald’s franchisee. This included the transfer of 16 McDonald’s stores back to McDonald’s on a single day, which was a remarkable effort by our wider franchise team.

The transactions mark the end of an era for Doug, who has built one of the largest McDonald’s franchise portfolios in the UK. We have proudly supported him for more than 20 years as his trusted franchise legal advisers, guiding him through every stage of his franchise journey. While we will miss working with him, we wish him every success for the future and an incredibly well-earned retirement.

The scale of the work required careful planning and collaboration across our firm. Our Employment Team worked closely with the Franchise Team, alongside MRL’s lawyers and McDonald’s in-house team, to coordinate the due diligence and legal documentation needed to deliver these complex transactions smoothly.

Our dedicated Franchise Team has a proven track record of advising clients in the fast-food and retail franchise sector, and is trusted by some of the biggest names in the industry, including McDonald’s. We understand the unique challenges of buying, selling, or restructuring franchise businesses, and we pride ourselves on delivering strategic, commercially focused advice.

This latest series of high-value transactions is a testament to the depth of experience and industry knowledge that makes Talbots Law a specialist in the niche field of franchise law.
