Injuries can happen when we least expect them and their impact can often extend far beyond the initial incident itself. Alongside the physical effects, an injury can affect work, finances, family life and day-to-day wellbeing.

As part of Injury Awareness Week 2026, led by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) we are taking the opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges many people face following an injury and highlight the support available to those who may need it. Injury Awareness Week is a UK campaign that raises awareness for victims of negligence and the lasting impact of needless injuries.

At Talbots Law, our Personal Injury team understands that behind every case is a person navigating what can be a difficult and uncertain time.

What is Injury Awareness Week?

Injury Awareness Week aims to raise awareness of the impact injuries can have on individuals, families and communities, while encouraging greater understanding around prevention, safety and support for those affected.

The week provides an opportunity to highlight the realities people may face following an injury and to remind those affected that support and guidance are available. Whether an injury happens at work, on the road or in a public place, the consequences can often continue long after the initial event itself.

Injuries by the numbers

While every injury is different, statistics continue to highlight the number of people affected across the UK each year.

Workplace injuries
An estimated 680,000 workers sustained a non-fatal injury at work in Great Britain during 2024/25, demonstrating the continued importance of workplace safety and support for those affected.

Reported workplace accidents
Employers reported 59,219 non-fatal workplace injuries under RIDDOR regulations during 2024/25, highlighting the number of incidents serious enough to require formal reporting.

Slips, trips and falls
Slips and trips remain the leading cause of major workplace injuries, with Health and Safety Executive data continuing to show they are one of the most common causes of accidents and preventable injuries.

Road traffic injuries
Latest UK data indicates that almost 30,000 people were killed or seriously injured on Britain’s roads in 2025, demonstrating the ongoing impact road traffic incidents can have on individuals and families.

Behind every statistic is a person, family or workplace affected by an unexpected event. While figures help us understand the scale of the issue, they do not capture the wider impact injuries can have on everyday life.

The impact goes beyond the injury itself

When people think about an injury, they often think first about the physical effects. However, the reality can be much broader.

Recovery may involve time away from work, ongoing treatment, financial pressures or adjustments to everyday life. In some cases, injuries can also affect confidence, independence and emotional wellbeing.

For many people, navigating what comes next can feel overwhelming, particularly whilst trying to focus on recovery.
