The Right To Buy scheme will change on the 21st November 2024.

Council tenants who are hoping to buy their council property will be offered reduced discounts from the 21st November, as part of wide-scale changes to the Right To Buy scheme.

Can I still buy with Right To Buy?

Council tenants can still buy their council house under the Right To Buy scheme.

However, the maximum discount they will receive will now be reduced to between £18-38k, dependent on which area of the country they live in.

How do I qualify for Right To Buy?

There are four key criteria that you must meet in order to buy a property under the scheme:

  • You must be a secure tenant
  • You must have had a public sector landlord for at least 3 years
  • You must live in the property you buy as your only or main residence
  • Your property must be self-contained

So, what do I do now?

We recommend that if you’d like to buy a council property under the scheme then you should submit your application before the 21st November, in order to qualify for a more generous discount.
