In October 2025, Healthwatch England reported that PALS (NHS) complaints have reached a record high – 256,777 written complaints in 2024/25, a 6% rise on the previous year. Complaints about GP and dental services rose by 7%, while hospital and community services saw over 113,000 complaints. Healthwatch warned that urgent reform is needed because too many patients feel unheard.

This surge shows that more patients than ever are dissatisfied with their care. It also highlights why knowing how to raise a concern through the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) is so important.

How PALS Helps

PALS offers confidential advice and support, helping patients resolve issues informally. It’s often the quickest way to have your voice heard without starting a formal complaint.

When PALS Isn’t Enough

The Healthwatch figures prove that many complaints remain unresolved. If PALS doesn’t resolve your issue, our clinical negligence team can:

• Review your case to see if negligence occurred • Guide you through the formal NHS complaints process

• Gather evidence and advocate for you

• Pursue compensation and accountability where care has fallen short
